Great for Business!
grayline

baywalkThe new ballpark will bring over 2 million visitors downtown each year, which is GREAT FOR BUSINESS.

Unlike at the the Trop where visitors fill only an ocean of asphalt before and after each game, a true urban ballpark on the waterfront with parking distributed throughout downtown will fill the sidewalks of St Pete, where they will experience our vibrant downtown and visit local businesses. Postcard views of our waterfront will be showcased on TV for 81 regular season games a year, driving tourism. The Grand Prix broadcasts to 400,000 households. By comparison, an All-Star game that would come with the new stadium draws hundreds of thousands of visitors and 30 million TV viewers.

Turning the under used parking lots at Tropicana Field into a retail / residential / entertainment destination is GREAT FOR BUSINESS. There is a $1 billion annual retail sales deficit between Hillsborough and Pinellas. Pinellas shoppers crossing the bridge to shop in Tampa cost the county $12 million in lost sales taxes last year and the city another $2 million.

cafeRight now, the 86 acres that make up Tropicana Field generate zero tax revenue for our community. Allowing a prominent developer a chance to purchase the land and invest upwards of $600 million on the site will in turn generate more than 10,000 jobs and more than $800 million in new sales and property tax revenues over the next 35 years. 37% or $220 million dollars of that money goes to our schools

Need more reasons to urge your council to allow citizens the right to vote? The new ballpark and redevelopment is expected to draw 1,000 new downtown residents. Denver property values went from 1.77/sf to 27.00/sf since opening Coors Field. The area surrounding Petco Park in San Diego saw property values increase 400%. Rising property values are historically a direct result of downtown stadium development.
